Building block 7 of 17Stage: Build
Role-based specialist clinics
One focused session for a problem the whole cohort shares.
What it is
A clinic is a short, practical session led by one role, such as legal, technology, compliance, privacy, AI or go-to-market. It addresses a gap common across the cohort, then offers follow-up for individual startups.
Because the baseline shows shared gaps, clinics can be planned from evidence rather than guesswork.
Why an incubator needs this.
Teach once, help many
If ten startups lack founder agreements, one clinic is far cheaper than ten consultations.
Plain language for first-time founders
Clinics explain jargon with examples, not slides of statute.
Peer learning
Founders hear each other’s questions and realise they are not alone.
Evidence-led planning
Clinics follow the gap map, so effort goes where need is greatest.
Who does what.
The institution
Hosts the room or session and ensures attendance.
IPMahir
Plans clinics from the cohort gap map and runs them through the relevant fractional role, with templates and follow-ups.
The founder
Attends, applies the checklist to their own startup and books follow-up if needed.
What comes out
- Clinic calendar
- Session materials
- Checklists and templates
- Attendance record
- Follow-up list

What each side gains.
For the incubator
- Efficient delivery of common guidance.
- A clear calendar of support.
- Evidence of activity and topics covered.
- Higher attendance than generic talks.
For the founders
- Practical checklists tailored to their stage.
- Fast progress on shared basics.
- A route to follow-up on their own case.
One privacy clinic, eight startups
Illustrative. This is a fictional composite written to show how the model works. The people, startup and details are invented. It is not a real client, and no result or outcome is claimed or guaranteed.
The situation
The baseline showed that most startups collected personal data with no notice, no data map and no retention rule. (Fictional composite.)
What was done
- Ran a ninety-minute privacy clinic led by the privacy role.
- Gave every startup a one-page data-map template and notice checklist.
- Offered short follow-ups for startups handling sensitive data.
What changed
- Most startups completed a first data map within a month.
- Questions in later office hours were more specific.
- The incubator logged the topic as covered.
What to watch out for
- Topics chosen by convenience, not by cohort need.
- No follow-up, so nothing changes.
- Too much theory.
Common questions.
Are clinics included in every plan?
The number of clinics depends on the plan. It is stated in the subscription.
Do clinics replace individual advice?
No. They cover shared topics. Individual matters go to office hours or a separately scoped engagement.
